Four corners, one idea: hold the panel
A solar panel is a rectangular frame, and its corners are the natural places to retain it. These corner fixings in white ABS plastic are designed for that purpose. The information supplied indicates only the material and the colour; it gives no dimension, no accepted frame thickness and no number of pieces per pack. The manufacturer’s instructions must therefore be consulted, and you should check that your panel’s frame is compatible.
For which projects
A homeowner mounting a panel on a workshop roof, a balcony support or a wooden frame finds in them a simple way of holding the corners. An installer, for their part, may use them as a spare part or as a light variant when a pale shade is wanted. In both cases, the logic is to spread the fixing over the four corners rather than a single point.
Before drilling or screwing
- Measure the thickness of your module’s frame.
- Note the nature of the support that will receive the corners.
- Make sure the panel sits flat before fixing.
- Ask yourself whether a gap must be left for ventilation or water drainage.
A synthetic material: strengths and limits
ABS plastic is appreciated for its lightness and for the absence of corrosion. It is easily moulded into corner pieces, which gives a clean result. It also has limits that the data sheet does not document: UV resistance, temperature range, impact strength. Take these unknowns seriously, especially if the site is very sunny or swept by wind.
How to go about fitting
- Place the panel where intended and mark the position of each corner.
- Offer a corner piece to a corner to check the fit.
- Fix each corner piece to its support with suitable fasteners.
- Go round the module, check the tightness, then make sure nothing moves when you push the frame gently.
Electrical connection is a separate stage, to be left to a qualified installer when it involves a household network.
What makes the model interesting
Lightness, a pale shade and no rust: these three elements are all the data allows us to put forward, without extrapolating about a strength that has not been stated.
Technical characteristics
- Type: corner fixings for solar panels
- Material: plastic (ABS)
- Colour: white
Precautions
Always check that a corner piece is not split before using it: a weakened part may give way in the first gust. Do not tighten to the point of deforming the plastic. Wear gloves on a roof or rough support and avoid dropping tools.
Care and storage
Dust off from time to time with a damp cloth. Look at the corner pieces after a harsh winter or a very hot summer: any crack or deformation calls for replacement. When not in use, keep them flat, dry and out of direct sunlight.
