A flexible panel for surfaces where glass will not fit
The SUNBEAMsystem Maxa Flush is a flexible 109 W solar panel designed for places that cannot take a rigid module: the rounded roof of a motorhome, the deck of a sailing boat, the lid of a converted trailer. Its monocrystalline Sunpower cells, stated at 22.3% efficiency, sit behind a flexible ETFE surface. The panel feeds a battery through a charge controller whose input range must match the electrical values listed below.
Who it suits
Private owners can put it on a weekend van, a small leisure boat or the curved roof of a garden shed. Professionals may use it to keep the battery of a service vehicle, a mobile workshop or a work boat topped up without adding much weight to the structure. The low mass also makes it easier to fit several panels on one vehicle.
How the module is built
The panel measures 106 x 54 cm and weighs 2 kg, which is light for 109 W of power. The material is flexible ETFE, and the manufacturer describes the whole unit as completely weatherproof. Connection is made through a Flush Cable output of 1.5 m that leaves the module flat.
No mounting eyelets
This model has no mounting eyelets. You therefore need to choose a fixing method suited to your surface, and consult the manufacturer’s instructions for recommended products and techniques.
Fitting it, step by step
- Pick an open area free of cast shadows, and make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of grease.
- Place the panel loosely to check the 106 x 54 cm footprint and the route of the 1.5 m cable.
- Secure the module as the manufacturer recommends, without sharply bending the surface.
- Connect the cable to a compatible charge controller, then to the battery, observing polarity.
Any connection to a household electrical system should be left to a qualified installer.
What sets this model apart
- A weight of 2 kg for 109 W, useful when a roof has a limited load allowance.
- A soft surface that follows gentle curves.
- A 1.5 m flat cable already built into the output.

Safety, care and storage
A panel exposed to light produces current all the time, so handle it carefully and never let the cable ends touch. Check that the controller accepts the open-circuit voltage of 21.70 V. For cleaning, clear water and a soft cloth are enough; avoid abrasive tools. If you remove it, keep it flat and away from sharp objects.
