A compact rigid module for small off-grid setups
The Wattstunde SOLA Frame Daylight is a rigid solar panel rated at 125 W. Its modest footprint makes it a natural fit for the roofs of motorhomes, converted vans, boats or garden sheds, where usable surface is limited. It connects to a charge controller, which then passes the energy on to a battery.
Who it is for and how it is used
A private user can rely on it to keep a leisure battery topped up over a weekend or to power the lighting of a cabin. A professional might fit it to a small site shelter, a measuring station or a piece of signalling equipment. Several identical modules can be combined if the controller and the wiring allow it.
Cells and construction
The module is built around Sunpower back-contact cells, quoted at 24% efficiency. The front face is protected by anti-reflective ESG glass, and weather protection is described as complete. The frame measures 1045 x 525 x 35 mm and the weight is 6.40 kg, a sensible figure for mounting on roof bars.
Mounting and connection
Pick an open spot that stays free of shadow throughout the day, since a single shaded corner is enough to cut output. Secure the frame on brackets suited to your surface and leave an air gap behind the panel to limit heat build-up. The output is an MC4 type: use MC4 cables and connectors of suitable cross-section, then check that your controller accepts the open-circuit voltage of 23.3 V. Any connection to a household installation should be left to a qualified installer.
- Fasten the module firmly.
- Run the cabling away from sharp edges.
- Connect the controller to the battery first, then the panel.

Safe use
A panel exposed to light produces current all the time, so handle the connectors with care and never unplug them under load. Respect the voltage and current values listed above when choosing the controller. Never walk on the glass surface, and use two people to handle the module in strong wind.
Care and storage
Clear water and a soft cloth are enough to remove dust and deposits; avoid abrasive products. Now and then, check that the frame is still firmly fixed and that the cables are in good condition. If you put it away for the winter, choose a dry place and store it flat or upright, protected from knocks.
